The proposed ordinance has been recommended by Dustin Wolff, the City’s
planning consultant, and the Plan Commission.
No one appeared at the noticed public hearing on the ordinance. Dustin pointed out the need to make some
regulations for signs in the Planned Business District, which was created after
the sign ordinance was adopted, The ordinance recommended is more
restrictive code than what is currently allowed under the B-3 Highway
Commercial District.
While I agree that pylon signs along County Highway
“V’ are unnecessary from a visual standpoint, allowing the signs along the
interstate on a conditional use basis would seem to satisfy the needs of most
of the businesses that would want to locate in that area. This ordinance needs
to pass to allow any signage in the district and the Council may want to
consider the option of requesting the Plan Commission hold a hearing on the
amendment to allow pylon signs by conditional use permit.
This is the second reading because the last meeting
was canceled and it’d be nice if this could be moved to the third reading.
